Kat Hamilton describes her experience in recognizing a need in the community and learning the skills to fill that need.
Willkommen! This Gotham Swords program studies a historical fencing tradition from Augsburg, Germany. The Augsburg School emphasizes a curriculum of foundational skills and concepts which inform the application of higher order techniques. The lessons forge a system of fencing that is applicable to Ringen (wrestling), Messer (knives), and Schwert (Longsword).
Money Pool: Help Defray the Cost of Building Messer Scabbards
As many of you know, Kat has been hard at work constructing scabbards for our club's messers.
We're asking for a suggested donation of around $20/per student to help defray the cost of materials and construction for the scabbards, belts, and suspensions that we all will be using in future classes.
Please know this is not mandatory! There is no pressure - we ask that if you're doing messer, please consider following this link and chip in what you can, when you can.
Danke!
The Original Longsword / Messer "Cheat-sheet"
Enjoy this 15th century cheat-sheet, comparison of the German Longsword and the Langes Messer as described to us by Andreas, "included in a 1491 manuscript compiled by Hans von Speyer (MS M.I.29)[1]"
My favorite page is the one with the manic-looking charts: proof that HEMA has always made people hysterical... but, then again, I might be projecting.
